98 Ranger 4x4 help

Hey guys new to the forum, Been having issues with the automatic hubs so i just swapped them out with the rugged ridge manual locking hubs. Hoping this would fix my 4 wheel drive problems, but i now have a new and more than likely bigger problem. When i engage 4 wheel drive in the car with my switch there is a loud grinding noise and i dont know where it is from i can only imagine it would be from stripped teeth on the cv axle but im not sure and i have to wait a few days till i can go use my friends lift and tools. However i do live up in the mountains of colorado and would like to get this fixed as quickly as possible.

a little history before i swapped the hubs out about 6 months ago when they went bad, when i would select 4x4 high there would be heavy vibration and loud fast thud thud thud thud then i immediately shut it off and waited till i got the new hubs to test the system out again.

Please any advice is very welcome i really do not want to have to go into a shop just to pay them to find the problem.

thanks guys
