Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a 98 expedition from a friend of mine who lost all of his keys. I didnt think it was going to be a big deal until i realized they are transponder keys (ugh).
anyways, when we took the key switch out to free up the steering column and pull it onto the trailer, we broke the halo on the PATS piece around the ignition lock cylinder. it appears that these can only be purchased through the ford dealer and I have to take the new keys I bought and the entire vehicle to the dealer for programing.
is there a way around the PATS? I have seen online some ways to buy pass it by connecting the wires that go into the PATS ring brain box but I am worried if i do that it could mess up the entire vehicle.
is there a way to do it? and if so, is it safe for the vehicle?
but I am worried if i do that it could mess up the entire vehicle.
Then suck it up, bring it to the dealer, pay the programming, and head on down the road. If you try bypassing the PATS and mess something up, it could end up costing you to fix it, plus you'd still have to do the programming.
