my engine sounds like the detonation gets a little erratic between 1,300 and 1,700 but loudest right at around 1,500. it only does it under load when chugging along. it just doesn’t sound smooth. if i sit in park and rev the engine to those rpms it sounds fine, nice and smooth. anyone else ever experience this. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Do you have a scan tool to check fuel pressure? You will need to monitor the fuel pressure while driving at that RPM? Check for any fluctuation. Report back to us what you find.

Is this a new problem? When did it start? Is there still power at high RPM's?
You can't measure fuel pressure with a scan tool. If fuel pressure was an issue, it would be increasingly more of a problem at higher load and RPM's. I can't think of any fuel pressure condition that would be an issue at mid RPM range.

Hahaha! you're right. Posting early in the morning before my pot of coffee has it's fatalities. I meant to post measuring it by a gauge. I've had scan tools on my brain lately. Thanks for the correction.

i have noticed it since i got the truck about a month ago. the truck runs great in high rpms. when i am in the rpm range i discribed above i still have power and it dosnt seem like it is cutting out or bogging it just sounds like the detonations are not smooth. i was more concerned whether something is out of wack in the engine making a little more noise. it just dosnt sound smooth but the power is still there
Ah, new user. Yes, pretty much totally normal (most likely). I fretted over an apparent engine "miss" particularly between 1500 and 1800 RPM on my "new" truck last year. Over the course of time, it hasn't changed.
The culprit, in most cases, is the fact that cylinder #8 gets the short shrift in fuel timing, etc. in these engines. To the new owner, it sounds for all the world like one cylinder has a bit of a miss. On TC lockup, around 45 mph, I can even feel it vibrating the truck just slightly as I drive down the road.
This is not to say that there might be something more going on, but I'll bet that is all it is.

Does it make any difference what setting the chip is in? Specifically 'stock'?
Its OK Diane - I'm useless without some caffeine in the AM. Well, I may be useless anyway!!
I was so paranoid at every little noise with my motor when I first got my truck. 12k miles And 7 months the noises are the same and I've just gotten used to them. I had a slight rough rpm range about 1500-1900 but after it was smooth. I really noticed it clear up after the hutch mod and clays FRX to remove all the air from my fuel.
it does it in any setting of the chip including stock and it was doing it before the chip was even put in. well thanks guys this made me feel a little better and might help me sleep a little better haha
