I have a '01 SD (diesel/auto) that ever since new it would sometimes make a strange tone or alarm when first starting it from overnight. I'm pretty sure that it only comes on when shifted into rev. (engine running)and not before. This was not the normal door open ding ding tone but a constant tone that will not stop until I turn the key to off and back on again. It will keep making this noise with the key off until I turn it back to on (the position just before crank). This tone may take a year off before it comes back. It really never bothered me much, everything else seems to be ok but now that I've found this site, I thought that I'd ask. I don't think that it has ever done it going into D (drive) Crazy!
Any one else?
Do you happen to have the backup aid?
Or maybe just part of it installed.
Just a thought.
Sean
I'm not sure what that is, if you mean the camera, no.
My backup aid(s) are my mirrors
Does anyone know if there are 2 different devices under the dash that make a noise? As I said, this is not the same as the door open, keys in ign. sound. Also this seems to be on the left side of the dash.
Can you find about where it's coming from?
I was thinking the back-up system that has sensors in the bumper
and a beeper in the dash. The other thought is a bad blinker unit??
It's one of the ones I really need to hear it and look myself.
You could do a video and post to youtube and link to it.
My 6sp does it sometimes, It won't stop till I turn off the key and turn it back on. Does it so randomly I haven't had a chance to track it down. It's been doing it since 2001, so I don't think it hurts anything.

Sorry I couldn't help more.
Well that's about where I'm at.
It is a curosity more than anything now. I wonder if it has anything to do with the battery cond? I'm on the short list for a new pair.
Is yours a diesel? It sounds like we can eliminate the trans as a signal source as mine is an auto.
my '04 does that, it's the reverse proximity sensor alarm going off telling me they're not working correctly. only does it occasionally.
do you have the override button on the dash to turn them off? if so, and the OFF light comes on when you put it in reverse, you're probably in the exact same situation i have.
