Has anybody here replaced a rear bumper with LMC's "Styleside Rear Bumper" #49-9542 using mounting kit #40-3705? Trying to make sure that this mounting kit will give me the 34" distance needed to fit frame rail to frame rail on my 68 F100.
I have it on my truck now.. worked and looks great.. PO had some welded angle iron attached to the frame, so that was a little bit of a challenge.. But after some work, everything bolted up just fine.. hope this helps..
LMC did not give me the 34" dimension. That is the problem, over the phone they can only give me a dimension of 38 1/2" center bolt to center bolt on the bumper. I measured the 34" outside frame rail to outside frame rail. I am assuming the bumper mounts bolt to the outside.
On a totally seperate note; was the C6 the only automatic transmission offered in 68 in the F100 and is that considered "high hump"? Trying, also, to order the correct replacement carpet kit.
Thanks
and thanks JP for posting the pics of the LMC bumper even if it is on a Flareside it lends insight to how there bumper mounts.

This is not the same rear bumper as a STYLESIDE! JP confused the issue by posting a pic of his FLARESIDE bumper.
Flareside's use a channel rear bumper, does not resemble the Styleside contoured rear bumper in any way, shape or form. The Flareside's bumper brackets are different than Styleside brackets.
Flareside's have a narrow bed with a wood bed floor and outside rear fenders. Look at the Flareside taillights, you won't see those on a Styleside that has a wide steel bed with taillights installed in the quarter panels.
No such thing as 34" or 38 1/2" frame rails. They are either 33 1/2" or 37 1/2"
The distance is measured between the inner frame rails behind the cab, not between the outer frame rails.
1964/72: There are 4 Styleside contoured rear bumper brackets: The inners: C4TZ-17787-ARight & C4TZ-17788-ALeft .. bolt to the inside of the frame rails.
The outers: C4TZ-17795-ARight & C4TZ-17796-ALeft .. bolt to the outside of the frame rails.
If you are going through LMC for a rear chrome bumper, and you need EVERYTHING, this is what you will need for your truck: Truck Parts and Truck Accessories
LMC Part Number
40-0194 REAR BUMPER BOLT KIT-18 PC $27.95
40-3705 REAR BUMPER MOUNT KIT-PAINTED $129.95
49-9542 * REAR BUMPER-CHROME-PREMIUM $189.95
This rear bumper from LMC (49-9542) has the correct holes for the rear license plate lamp assembly, which you will need as well. I could not find it through LMC, but they "might" have them somewhere in their catalog. I did find them at Dennis Carpenter, and you will need 2 of them:
DC also has the rear bumper (C4TZ-17906-B) for $200. Not sure if his quality is any better with bumpers.......I would think its probably the same as the LMC repop. However, you might want to compare LMC vs DC because you might save some on shipping of all the parts. Never hurts to shop around. I always choose DC over LMC on some products because DC has better quality and is made in-house.
The part that the bumper actually bolts too is slightly slotted, so it is not too hard to make sure it fits.. I am not saying that 4 inches is not going to be a problem, but for sure you have a small amount of wiggle room.. Again, sorry for confusing flareside (stepside), with styleside.. I guess I was just excited to be able to show pictures of my new bumper! haha
Thanks WW those are the rear bumper parts I have in my "cart" at LMC along with the license plate lamp assembly 47-4480 (2ea) and a bunch of other stuff. As it stands my total order is over $1,000.00 so there is no additional charge for shipping or oversize items.

Did you install this rear bumper on your 68?
Thanks,
Bart
No, mine still has the original bumper.....but everything listed above will work for you. Glad you find the lamp assemblies, I thought they might have them I just didnt look hard enough!
I copied and pasted this from another discussion so there would not be any confusion:

Does not fit all 1964/72's as DC claims, who has the wrong part number (C9TZ-13550-A) listed in his catalog (so what else is new?), where william2 got it from.
In this case, the (C9TZ-13550-A) license plate assembly will fit the rear bumper (C4TZ-17906-B) that DC sells and they will also fit the rear bumper from LMC (49-9542). The DOTZ-13350-A you listed is the updated number for the part, but your not going to find that part listed in DC......so there was no need to list that number for him.
As far as they dont fit all 64-72.......yes, they do. The lamp assembly hole in the rear bumper is the exact same diameter from 64-72.....the part number was just replaced as you listed above. The lamp assembly changed their look in 73, and as a matter of fact, the D3TZ-13550-A lamp assembly listed in the DC catalog will fit the bumper as well, it just would not be correct for our model trucks.
