1996 F150 4.9 straight 6 Hot problems

Ok... I have a 96 f150 it starts and runs like a champ. I can run it all day with no problems. That is till I turn it off. After it sits about 5min. i can go to turn it on ant it studders.. The oil pressure guage will jump all over the place. the truck will either stay rocking or it will just shut off. If I let it cool down for about 30-45 min it will start up with no problems. Not sure what this can be any help would be appreciated.... thanks

Almost sounds like an ignitions safety switch..my brothers truck did that, or didn't even start. Found out that his safety switch needed replacing.

My best guess is that you have a PCM which is failing, probably from capacitor(s) leakage. This seem to be happening a lot as the components age. I once had one that failed in exactly the same manner as you describe - only on warm re-start - it took me forever to isolate, but here's how I finally did it...

Try to pull codes immediately after you have a warm re-start problem. In my case, all I got was a solid tone when I tried to pull codes. After I waited a half hour, I was finally able to pull codes, and it was all clear like nothing was wrong, probably because everything had been re-set.
