I have a 1983 f150 inline 6 and i want to put a 4 barrel carb on it. What size should i get? What mods will it take to install it? How would i get the transmission kick down to work with the new intake required for the carb?
You need a very small carb. Most use the 390cfm holley, but I believe some have also used the 500cfm edelbrock. Maybe they will comment on how it works for them.
You need to consider the whole package, it's not easy turning a inline six truck into a firebreather to compete with the v8's. The six is a low rpm engine for pulling, and changing it's personality also may require a gear ratio change in the rearend.
I'm not trying to make it a fire breather by any means. I'm just trying to give it a little more pep and do a little better off road. I have already re geared it. It just seams not have the fuel flow on the highway. It tends to have problems going up hill and any thing over 65.
