I don't drive this truck but i have a few times and it got up to normal opperating temperature and no overflow of coolant went into the reservoir. I took to top off of the radiator and looked while it was running and i can't noticeably tell it circulating any coolant and i thought you were supposed to be able to see it? It is full to the top, all green, no discoloration, Any suggestions? It goes past the middle of the normal marking when it gets to normal opperating temperature, and i dont run the crap out of it when i run it.
Maybe the water pump isn't pumping fluid through the system. Just a suggestion, you might could check by removing the belt and turning the water pump manually to see if the fluid in the radiator is reacting at all (I don't think the water pump is connected to the cam on that engine).
Its not uncommon to have a radiator that has cores plugged which would cause poor circultation (not able to see water move). Especially on a vehicle this old.
When was the last time the radiator was flushed?
Have you ever used any stop leak in the radiator?
Or has it sat long periods (months) without being ran?
It maybe time to completely flush out the system and when you do remove the bottom hose to get any chunks out.
Or if you are worried about it take it out and take to a radiator repair shop and they can clean it out for you.
hmmm. yeah i know it was sat for a good while at a time with the previous owner, and i doubt it has been flushed. i haven't used any stop leak in it, i know a really good local radiator shop so i'll give them a call and see what they would do, i've been trying to hold off on replacing all the fluids in this truck because i have plans of pulling the engine in the future to do a lot of work, and i wouldn't want to just fill it then dump it again ya know?
thanks guys!
