Mixed Radiator Fluid

Question for y'all...

My son-in-law took his truck in and the mechanic told him he messed up big time. He mixed radiator coolants. I think he had the orange stuff and he put in green. Now the mechanic is telling him that he has to replace the water pump and have the system hooked up to some kind of a machine to flush it out.

Does this sound right?

I would have thought just flushing the system real good (without the thermostat in) would do the trick. Thoughts anyone?

Thanks

I'd flush it as best you could and drive it with the coolant recommended for the vehicle.

adding the green is not as bad as adding the orange to a green only system i think he will be just fine with a flush.

I second Ford390. I can't imagine why he would change the water pump, unless he just needs the work. I guess its possible that the seals would wear faster, but that wouldn't happen immediately.

THanks guys. I'm going to help him flush the system this weekend while scolding him to not do that again.
