FICM again?

I had FICM rebuilt by Ed at the end of July. This morning when starting truck after work the fmp dropped to 45.5 then 45 and went right back up really quick. also during cranking battery volts droppped to 10.2. Is this another FICM issue or is my battery voltage too low which in turn is making that reading off on fmp??

I would contact Ed as soon as possible.

Are you sure the plugs are all seated properly and the ground is good?

I would be VERY unhappy with 10.2 V on cranking! That may be enough to keep the unit from staying at 48V.

Be sure to read Ed's web site - I am not sure he warranty's his work if you run with a bad electrical system.

If a FICM goes out, then you usually have a root cause issue (bad batteries or alternator or both).

The best thing might be to Hydro test Each Battery Cell

Thats how I caught a battery going bad a Month ago

The very First thing that got my attention was the Alternator was charging foer longer than Normal But when checking the Voltage at betterys all looked OK untill I Hydrotest Each Battery Cell I found 1 Bad Cell and Another going DownHill

FWIW my FICM never went below 47.5 volts with the Bad Battery cell

But I shure could tell that it Ran soooooo Much smoother Right at startup (Before Alt kicked on) with Good Batterys

Make shure to Follow the 2 Main Ground wires off the Batterys and Follow them to where they mount on the Frame and the Engine and Clean those connections

Anyone put a solar charger on their dash and plug into the accessory outlet when the truck is parked?

If so, which model do you have? Saw some on the bay that have 12Volts, one was 4 watts, one 8, I am sure more can be better but wonder what is enough?

Ed at FICM repair has it listed as a suggestion on their FAQ page so I was wondering.

Not expecting it to charge a tired battery but maybe maintain a good one for better starts?

Like I said, I haven't seen them do enough to warrant using it. Also, if you get a good set of batteries they have a warranty and will probably die before that warranty is up. That way you get new batteries instead of prolonging ones that will die outside of warranty.

I agree with you on the battery stuff.

The way I interpreted it was; The FICM needs the most voltage at startup. (low voltage being a big FICM killer) By being on some form of trickle charger, you will get the most out of your batteries. Plugging into a 110volt stand alone unit, though best, may not be as convenient as plugging one into your accessory outlet and getting at least something.

I guess I was wondering if anyone does it. I don't but I was considering it.
