Engine Removal

I have 1997 F-150 truck 5.4 liter engine. I need to remove the engine, my question is do I need to remove the cab.

No, remove the radiator then remove the clutch fan and intake. Once those are gone you can do two things, one is easily access the top tranny bolts and two is have enough room to tilt the engine up and out to remove. Tape a sheet of cardboard on the condenser to save it from being poked by anything on front of the engine during removal. Takes two people to maneuver it out and back in safely and at the very least 9' of overhead clearance to get the proper tilt with a picker.
