Which way to pull engine out?

Just wanted to know from everyone here if removing the engine from above is easy. From what I've read most people remove the front of the truck and roll the engine forward through the front. I hear that it's pretty easy to remove it straight up if you remove the hood, fan, and radiator.

I am getting ready to put in a Ford reman. long block sometime in the near future and thought I'd get everyone's opinion on the easiest way to do this. It just seems like a heck of a lot of extra work to remove everything from the front end to bring it out that way.

Thanks
Drake

If your hoist will go high enough you do not need to remove everything up front. I will say it is easier to work on with everything removed. Probably less damage if there is a mishap as well.

I will be removing mine in a few weeks and plan to remove everything in front of it, radiator, intercooler, grille, header panel and probably even the bumper. I figure it will be a good time to pressure wash the radiator and intercooler and get the 10+ years of bugs and stuff out of them. Plus, with a lifted truck the engine would be close to 5' off the ground (at the bottom of pan) to get it out the other way.

While it is a little more work, it is well worth it when working on stuff on the engine during removal/re install. You can practically stand in the engine bay.

I have to agree with these guys its easier to remove everything infront of the truck and pull it almost straight up https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...tor-build.html Look at the 11th post down on the first page where Cory took his engine out. Cory and I both have 8'' lifts so that would put the bottom of the engine around 6' in the air if that wasnt done

easy button!

I replaced my engine about 2 years ago and the entire header bar comes out, you have to remove the grille, the radiator, intercooler, take the ac comdensor and carefully hang it over the passengersidefender. you can then remove the bolts at the top backside of the radiator support and pry out the bar that goes across the top and you will only have to lift the motor about a foot to get it out! Be aware that you will probably hit the top of your motor on the underside of the cowling so be careful. the hood does not need to be removed and I found it easier to lift and block the frame up so I could just unbolt the motormount on the drivers side. any questions PM me and ill get you my number!

What about removing the cab? Will that be more work? Is it done to do inframe work?
