Hi All -- The other day I posted a question on the order seals go in a Jag rack & pinion- I have all but the final 2 in place-- I dropped the final gasket (which ended up being 2 gaskets) when I pulled them out of the rack and do not know which way or order they need to go back in. Not getting any answers on this site I also posted it on the JAG forum and the XJS fourm - over 100 views and no replies. So I thought maybe pics will help so here goes.
This pic shows the housing, the old gaskets (1-rubber & 1 rubber with a metal ring - both have lips on them) below that is the new gaskets but I'm showing the reverse side just to try to show the lip - they match the old ones exactly. seala.jpg picture by 49f3dls - Photobucket sealb.jpg picture by 49f3dls - Photobucket picd.jpg picture by 49f3dls - Photobucket
I am trying to find a diagram or pic or just the good old written word telling me how to put these in -- $75 bucks for a bunck of seals and NO instructions is a bit of a rip off but I guess they think only experts will take on this project- I am NOT an expert just a dummy for even trying I guess. Any info on where to find an answer or an actual answer would be appreciated. Thanks Dave S
I know how you feel. I had some questions in the past like that. Not answered..
And you would think you were being ignored! I did read your thread about that seal situation..I didn't reply because that is not something I know. Sorry
Hi guys didn't think I was being ignored just shocked that no one on 3 different forums no one has had this problem. Over 100 viewed the thread but no answers amazed me. Nick I appreciate the email address and will give it a try. Thanks. Dave s

I am guessing I will have seal issues too, when the time comes.
I am signed up! I wish I knew as well..
I never did get an answer on power steering pump pressures...ford vs. saginaw, etc. I figured I would worry about it later.
Good Luck Dave. I will keep my eyes open too.
Hey Jeff- just be careful when you take the thing apart and don't be a dummy like me and drop these 2 seals - they are the only ones that seem to matter which way they go in. As far as the pump- I ended up using the ford pump with the JAG valve and spring. I took the hose from the JAG & Ford and had used the Ford end at the pump and the Jag end at the rack and had a hose made. Cost about $80. I did find that article that said this should work. Now watch I will finally find out how the gaskets go in (I will let you know if I do) and will probably blow them all out again because the pressure is all wrong. Thats the fun of redoing these old trucks right- I keep telling myself that anyway. have Fun dave s
