Thought I would post here also since there is not a lot of action on the flathead forum.
Finally getting to put my flathead V8 together and as I sort through the gasket set I find these white pieces of rope packing. It has been three or four years since I tore this engine down and I don't remember seeing where these would go Anybody know what they are and where they go? They are about three inches long and a half inch in diameter.
I already have located the graphite rope packing for the front & rear seals.
Those are teflon-type rope seals. I assume you have a FelPro gasket set? They give you both the graphite original style, and the teflon ones so you have a choice. I believe the teflon ones are only for the front seal. I used them, no issues. The teflon kind don't benefit from soaking, but should be wetted down before setting the crank.
