With the recent storms, there was a lot of flooding around me. I have been afraid to drive through any big puddles because my air intake duct is behind the bumper. I have a stock 300 6cyl engine with the stock air intake. I have seen the 5.8's before with the air intake hose on top of the radiator, right under the hood. Is the air cleaner box the same for all engines? It looks like the bottom half of the air cleaner box is the same for all motors, and the top is different depending on the single or duel outlet. Should I be able to just swap that intake duct in or will it not fit that easy?
Your air box actually pulls air in from the grill, unless you modified it. Your 95 should be a 1 tube MAF setup going into the air box. Keep the top part of the air box. Grab yourself the lower half of an airbox from a 5.8 and that will put the inlet above the radiator.
The airbox is exactly the same for all the gas engines. Cannot say for sure about a diesel. I swapped out the factory 5.8L air tube on my old 1992 F350 for an air tube from a 4.9L/7.5L truck. Very simple swap. It's the air tube that is different between the 4.9L/7.5L equipped trucks and the 5.0L/5.8L versions.
I still have the over the radiator support 5.8L intake tube sitting on the shelf

They do no harm. It's manufacturers scaring people so that they can sell more air filters. They can only do harm if you douse them in the required oil to the point of dripping. And all that does is contaminate the MAF sensor. That's hard to do as well...

I use a K&N drop in filter on several vehicles. A one-time investment for a reusable filter. Yes it is documented the K&Ns allow larger particles through, but it can be reused for 100's of thousands of mile with proper maintenance. The cost of some of the replacement paper filters is ridiculous.
Just be very careful when you re-oil the K&N filter..a little dab will do ya'!
If you recall that line then you are closer to retirement than most on this forum.
I wasn't expecting a performance increase out of changing to a K&N filter. I found it on sale for $23 and liked the idea of not having to change the filter ever again.

The PowerStroke version sucks air in through a duct above the left headlight.
