Hard start when engine is hot.

I have a 1984 F150 351W. I have had a problem for a while with a hard start when engine is hot. The starter turns but struggles. If I let the engine cool down a bit - it starts right up. I have replaced the starter, the fender mounted solenoid, replaced both the positive and negative battery cables (with 1ga cables) and cleaned the engine block ground.

Any suggestions.....?

Check the timing. Also check the ignition box. If it's aftermarket, it may not have the spark retard feature when cranking. If the timing is a little bit advanced, it can cause this.

What about the cable from the solenoid to the starter?

If the timing is correct and the ignition box is working properly, about all that is left is the battery. You can have it tested or swap out for another if you have one.
