Transmission fit

I put the motor and trans in my '82, it's an AOD, they went in separately, but when I was getting the trans under the truck the converter and the smaller shaft came out, I put them back in, about for slicks going in but I still have a gap, less than 1/8".
do you think its not in all the way??

Where is the gap?

If the converter is firmly against the flexplate and the bell is off the block then I would check to see if the converter is seated properly.

Thats just where the gap is, What I'm asking is, the small shaft came out and does it need any special installation? the converter is in as fa as I can get it.

You need to support the center of the torque convertor and spin it by hand while pushing in. Do this until it won't go in any farther.

If there is a gap do not force it! If you try to assemble this without it seated all the way you will break the bellhousing or destroy the transmission pump.
