Hey everyone. This is the first Ford I have owned, and I do not know the 5.4l 3v as well as my last 360ci dodge. It's a 2005 F-150 SuperCrew 4x4, got it cheap, and it's got issues. Got codes for misfire on cylinders 4 and 5 and Coil 'D' circuit malfunction. Obviously it has codes for limited power as well. was wondering how cylinder numbering goes and what coil is 'D'. Thanks in advance for your info.
Thanks for the info Coskid. I'm not sure, although I would hope, that the plugs have been changed a couple times at least. It has 303000km on it. The scanner I was using gave me a code P0354 Ignition coil D circuit malfunction. I expected that they would be numbered same as the coils, is it a generic code when the engine is missing so badly? Also have an EVAP small leak code, exhaust manifold is leaking.
Cracked exhaust manifolds were an issue with some 5.4s also I would replace the plogs and COPs as soon as possible. There are a ton of right ups on this site that tell you exactly what to do.
Are you just getting misfire codes? Some 2005s had issues with premature failure of fuel injectors which over time leads to costly repairs.
Thanks, might have at least one bad coil. Codes say misfire within first 1000 revs, Not sure what 'P0354 Coil D circuit malfunction' means yet, but if I keep the truck, I will probably end up doing exhaust work as well. This truck has been rode hard, might just auction it off, maybe someone can use some parts off it. It's a nice looking truck, but under the skin it's pretty worn out.
Is the engine making a tapping/ticking sound between 900-1200 RPMs, if so you could have bad cam phasers, lash adjustors, or lifters. I hope that is not the case, low oil pressure is a sign of these problems. It might be a good idea to have a diagnostic run on the truck to find out exactly.
