Electrical problems

2010 F150 XLT supercrew 61,000 KMs just off full warranty (60,000).
Just started to have some electrical problems in the cab.
door lock on drivers side rear no longer locks or unlocks
the cab fan does not work on 1 or 2 but still works on 3 and 4
the radio cuts in and out when you hit a bump in the road or twist the truck over uneven ground it the station tuning changes a bit then in a few seconds it comes back to the preset it was on.

These all seemed to happen at the same time. connected ?? maybe, maybe not.

Wondering if anyone has had like problems or can suggest where to start trouble shooting.

Appreciate any guidance or feedback.

Donald

I'm not familiar with the locations of ground wires on Ford trucks but I'd start by finding a manual that lists the grounds. With so many electrical gremlins at one time I would go to the grounds first.

there is a ground up by the battery box that has given a few people problems.

try searching the forum, and see if it pops up.

i'll try to look for it later tonight and post up a link.
but right now, it's time for cake.

Check state of the battery and your grounds.

The fan only working on 3-4 is the fan resistor module just behind the glove box. Eventually the only speed your going to have is 4.

Scan for codes. U have a body control module with an accessory delay relay. If you have to go past the simpler types of failures you also have on this generation Ibelieve are what are called upfitter relays. Possibly 4 of different fuse values, used for the accessory ad-ons. The more complex the truck, the more upfitter relay need. Codes may help with the erratic acc thing? Use caution you are in the High Speed Twisty Wire Network. Your looking for B or U codes most likely. The system with all the modules is quite capable of pointing you in a direction.

I had trouble with the ground under the battery box that meborder referred to.

Here's my original post:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...t-problem.html

Now our symptoms are not similar, but I'm jaded, check for loose grounds!! Particularly with it being activated by a bump in the road! Hit the bump, ground loses contact briefly, things go funky, ground remakes contact, life is good again...

I agree with the blower motor resistor being the problem with the fan, changed one on my 2001.

I just had my 2011 truck fixed under warranty for the fan speed not working on 1-2 settings. Was fan resistor just like mentioned already here but thought I would re-post just so those of you out there that haven't had yours quit, it's not an if it will fail but when. This bites because I would have never had this as an issue if I were driving a Tundra, just saying.

This is still an awesome truck by a long shot, but these small little quality items doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy about long-term ownership.

The heater speed switches on Toyota PU's failed by the gross. Heater motor would simply go to full speed or off. While the resister would be good. The assembly had to be replaced.

That might be true overall, but I also owned four Toyota pickups over the last 15 years starting with a '93 model, '98, '05 & '07 and never turned a wrench or saw a dealer service dept under my ownership.

My '11 Ranger was in the shop 7 times in the first 6 months and my '11 F-150 ( again I said I love the truck and way it drives) but it has been back to the dealer 5 times in a year of ownership. 3x to fix drive shaft thunk, first two attempts to "grease" the splines, then last to replace entire shaft, then back to replace bad right front shock that mysteriously busted, last visit was for the heat/ A/C fan speed resistor.

Just saying for the hard earned money and loyalty to the product we dedicate, these trucks should undergo more stringent R&D as well as quality control. I know every brand has its flaws and issues (I've owned 17 "new" vehicles in just a 7 year period) I can tell you what I'm never buying again and what I might.

I hear you on Toyota reputation for quality. Toyota's 1st 10 years of ownership has been perty remarkable overall. Though Toyota wasn't making a real full sized truck, more of an in between fun rig. With the numbers difference in total sales, the Ford Engineers run the warranty departments and nothing gets done to speak of until they decide what is wrong. It take thousands of complaints before they put down the coffee cups and make another pot of coffee. Meanwhile the Toyota didn't sell near as many and the Engineers having little to do, drink Gensing Tea. Think overall the last generation F150 is a perty good truck. Just thinking in print.

Yea I guess thats why Ford outsells Toy 4 to 1 in the US But dont ask the 350000 Toyota owners in their last recall or the people with the sticking gas pedals a few years ago

I'm not sticking up for Toyota with your comment on the sticking gas pedals, as I would prefer to drive a Ford ( I find the ride & drive, designs, comfort superior) but lets remember the sticking gas pedals were found to be largely untrue through the court system. It would be like blaming Ford for exploding Firestone tires with the Explorers thorougout the early nineties, if I recall both the Mercury Mountainer and Mazda Navajo SUV's, which were built off the Explorer platform were not affected oddly enough??

Again not trying to knock the Ford brand, I just think like what was mentioned on how many more of these trucks are built .vs Tundras so to speak, I would think Ford could afford to higher more quality control clerks and or spend more on making sure the tech they put into the truck is bullet proof before releasing to the mass public. Lets be real, one poster on another thread said the fan speed resister has been a problem since '97 or so, so why is it still failing on 2011 trucks?? this is something that should have been resolved on the '09

I will say my local Ford dealer is always a pleasure to work with when I have to take the truck in for warranty work, they always bend over backwards to make sure my truck is repaired correctly and always make sure I have a truck to drive while mine is tied up. this level of service is miles above any other brand service dept I've ever experienced. I always say though, it's not the problems you have with a vehicle but how they treat you and the situation.

Looking for codes, did you have any? These modules are under the HSCAN protection system.
