I started doing some research through the search function, but between getting frustrated and just being lazy I didn't find what I needed.
My rear cab mounts are sagging and are overdue for a replacement. I've seen several styles over the years; the stamped steel, the funky quasi "C" shaped dog bone looking style, and an adjustable turnbuckle style doo-dad.
What type do you guys suggest? what types have you guys used and did you like them? I had contemplated fabricating my own, but they are only about $25 each so its probably cheaper to buy them in the long run.
As always, thanks in advance for your wisdom, advice, opinions, sarcasm, witty remarks, etc
I have a pair of used stamped ones that appear to be in good shape with no wallowed out holes. IMO, however, the turn-buckle style would probably be better since you'd be able to adjust them.
I think all that is available new is the '53-on style, a cast iron dogbone. They are much more rigid than the originals. If your frame or cab is tweaked, adjustables might be better, but they don't look as rigid to me.
I did away with the dog bones on Homade, I didn't like the way the cab moved so I fabbed new ones from 2"x4" box tubing and made rubber mounts from the rubber rollers for a boat trailer. You can cut the rubber mounts with a chop saw and get a perfect cut, adjust height with large washers, just a thought, Garry
Ilya,
I looked up those adjustable ones last night....$60 each....way out of my pay scale. Now if my truck were ever to be a trailer queen, then maybe. How much do you want for the pair you have?
Ross, so that cast iron dogbone looking style is 53 and up? Its all good as long as they fit I guess.
Homade, Thats a good idea on the boat rollers. I have a length of conveyor belt from a sand and gravel operation that I used for the bed mounts.
Yea Bobby, you can get a new roller for about 20.00 around here and can get lots of mounts from it. Trick is to cut with a power saw, chop saw or whatever you call it to get a good strieght cut.
