when I turn the wheels to full lock, either right or left, I hear a clunking sound. Usually pulling into parking spots, into the driveway, etc.....but only going forward, not in reverse.

Where do I start?
Ball joints and sway bar bushings, search for both on the excursion forum and you will find plenty of posts.
This is usually the sway bar bushings in the links. They attach the bar (attached to your axle) to the frame up above. The bolts that go through the bushings have also been known to work themselves loose and need re-torquing.
If your ball joint is clunking, you are in trouble! But it could be possible...
My bet will be the sway bar end links. Mine have popped on and off for 184k miles! Just this week I bought metric, high grade bolts(from Fastenal) to replace the junk OEM ones so I can torque them at a higher setting.

Do you put them in yet? You might have to take them back as tightness isn't the answer. I am getting mine today and might do a thread on it.
