So a recent job loss forced me to start cutting debt As much as I didn't want to I put my Superduty up for sale. I was offered a 2000 ex limited with 99000 miles on it with the v10 and $7,000 to boot we settled on $7,200. I really hate the way this thing drives. I have read up on the spring swaps and now I have lots of free time I guess I will eventually get to it after I fix all the other stuff. My laundry list so far is
Dome light and door ajar light stays on
abs light on
service engine soon light on
exhaust leak
rearend appears to have a leak
engine looks like it might leak a little oil to
ac blows out defrost
sometimes speedo don't work
drivers side power door lock does not work
one of the rear vent windows does not open. Missing some hardware.
It is a rebuilt wreck (good title) but it was rolled on the right side. The dashboard was not bolted back in good to pillar and there is a lot of wind noise coming thru that side hopefully this is related.
I guess I have some work ahead of me. But no more truck payment.
He offered the x and 7k I countered with 7500 we settled at 7200.
And yes it's great not having a payment now. Now I can fix the wife's Chevy that's broke down.
I am a boat mechanic. I had started the service department and been running it at this dealership for almost four years. Asked the owner several times for benefits and never got them. Applied to a federal prison nearby and told him I did so he could start looking for a replacement in case I got the job. A week later he hired someone then the next week he fired me. Oh well.
Spray pb blaster in all the door lock latches and slam the doors a few times to fix the dome light and the door ajar light.
Do a search for tin foil fix for lock actuators. It's a free fix for door locks.
I had some wd 40 and tried that but no luck so far. It worked on my superduty but isn't working this time. I was finally able to narrow it down and figure out is the drivers side rear door. So I will start on that in the morning.
Forgot to mention this was once used as a plow truck. It looks to me that a sits a little higher than most. I will try to post up some pics this weekend and maybe someone can tell me if it has been lifted or has any suspension mods. It does have a rear sway bar but still drives quite a bit different from my superduty. I let my dad drive it and he said " you don't steer it you herd it". i'd really like to get get it to handle the way my truck did.

If it came from the factory with the plow prep kit, it more than likely has X code springs on the front which will sit it up higher than original trucks. I do not remember if the X could be ordered with that kit unless it was public safety(government) bought. Our neighboring county uses Xs for Rescue and First Response vehicles so I do know they could be bought that way, but I think they had to be bought through the state.
On the other hand, someone could have changed the springs and put Super Duty springs on her to handle the weight of a plow. Here is a pic of mine just this week. A month ago I put the snow plow prep kit(off a Super Duty) on my X..look at the difference in height. Mine is on the left
As far os 'herding' the truck, the steering box may be bad. Some can be tightened up a little(this forum can tell you how to do that), but they are not that expensive and doesn't take long to change it. Might want to check and make sure there is not excessive movement in your ball joints as well.
The guy I got it from told me the steering box needed to be tightened or replaced. there really isn't any play in the wheel it just wanders around the road quite a bit. The guy also just had balljoints put in it along with new hubs.
The front and rear leafs are rusted pretty bad and and sagging so I will be replacing them any way along with the brakelines. This ex came from Indianapolis so its ate up pretty bad underneath. I normally will not buy anything unless it came out of the south but I was in a pinch financially. Actually trying to prevent being in a pinch. It's mine now and I don't mind wrenching so I get to fix it up and have some fun doing it.

Aint that the truth. I've been on the long torturous trail with my EX as well. Done the springs, shocks, sways, rims, tires. Better but needs to be better some more. Steering box is the next on the list. There is a group buy going down in December. You might want to be on that.
