Northern tools has a step toolbox for $20 - i thing.
I have two and they have the tools in them,
So i save a trip to/from the garage.
This was my solution because the step wouldn't get me nearly close enough, little giant ladder from picture below, added a board and pad before I climbed on top of it. Worked great.
Wow, get out of your way! I knew the diesels were heavier but that is some serious weight.
If I recall correctly, I still have the tag somewhere, the shipping weight tag that was in the X when it came off the delivery truck was 8400 and something pounds....Somewhere around here or in the dash I still have it. At the time I had a 6.5L Turbo 4x4 2500 Suburban and I thought "good god, this thing weighs a ton more than the Sub"

They are porky. The 6.0 weighs 1062#'s vs the gas motor 600# pounds, plus a bigger transmission. Plus a gallon of diesel weighs more than a pound more than a gallon of gasoline so there is another 45#'s or so. It all adds up!
Nothing else like it on the road!
Be careful out there! Smart cars are lurking with their exclusive safety cage.

I can picture them rolling down the road after a wreck.

archtaan's dead on, they aren't that much heavier from the factory. I believe the 5R110 would be heavier than the 4R100, and the engine is about 400 lbs more, but I have a tough time believing more than a ~500 lb increase. Would love to see a weight ticket of a stock 6.0L Excursion with a full tank and nothing in it.
In 2000 when the mags were testing the Limited V10 4x4 and doing comparison tests they quoted the curb weight as 7260, so that would be full of fuel and no occupants.
The 6.0 weighs 392 pounds more than the V10 + another 44 pounds for the extra weight of diesel and maybe 100 pounds for the 5r110 vs 4r100 and extra coolant, oil, etc so I would guess the curb weight for a stock 6.0 4x4 is @ 7796# give or take a few pounds. What do you think?

I think we need more members posting with their weight tickets from weigh stations, dumps, etc.
