I found a used holley at a garage sale. I want to put on my 79 400 the numbers on the carb are 6909 What do they mean ? Will it work on a Edelbrock 8010? I,am sure it needs to be re-built but don't know if it is worth it.
Do you mean a Weind 8010? I ran the numbers on that carb, it's a 4160 model, 600 cfm, pretty much your standard vacuum secondary 4BBL. And yes, it should work with that intake. Your renew kit number is 37-119, from Holley.
Sorry -The intake is a Edelbrock # 2171 (non egr). Is it easy to re-build this carb? How much is the kit compared to having it rebuild or buying a new one?
the specific rebuild kit for that carb is $19 from Summit, but I would get one with non-stick gaskets, and a couple of different power valves. The power valve rating depends on how much vacuum the engine draws, and must be determined after everything is put together, and the engine has been run. The kit from Holley probably comes with an 065 power valve, which opens at 6.5" of vacuum or less. Basically, you want one that is rated for 2" less of vacuum than the engine pulls at idle when hot.
I have done this, it does involve changing the front throttle shaft. Not a problem if you know what you are doing or are mechanically inclined. It does come with detailed instructions.

Thanks for the input you guys. I ordered the rebuild kit and kickdown conversion from Summit a couple days ago. Can not wait to see how it will work on my truck.
