Rear end and leaf sping help

Hi guys i have a few questions on my 66 f100. Acording to the door tag the axle code is 17, I cant figure out what the numbers on the rear itself mean there are a few differant ones.

Also my main concern is the rear leaf springs. On one endt they are nice clean angled cuts and the other end they are cut straight off with what looks like a torch. Is this how the did it back then or do i need to look for new springs. Oh yeah both drivers and passenger side springs are like that. Also can i take the leafs apart and have them sand blasted so i can paint them. I plan on painting the rest of the frame and the other susspention parts. Thanks guys here are the pictures. Justin

Rear end and leaf sping help

66Twin I: I used Eaton Detroit to replace my rear springs on a 66F250. They have a web-site full of useful info, and all the details you'll need to make your decision. There is also a "spring Guru" available by phone. Good company to deal with.
I recall seeing on their site that sandblasting springs takes the "temper" out of it and basically destroys them.
I have seen others on this site do what you propose, perhaps one of them will post their experience with sandblasting and then putting the springs back into service.
Hope this helps. Jeff
