Ok I Have an 84 F250 2wd With A T18 And 3.73s And I Would Like To Upgrade My Cam For a Lil More Bottom End And I Dont Know Muchs About The Aftermarket Stuff What Should I Look For?
Is your motor all stock? Is it a factory 4bbl motor or not? If it is it already has a pretty good RV cam in it but the heads its wearing are smog era with massive combustion chambers so static compression is down around 8.3:1, combine that with the stock manifolds and exhaust and that's why the motor feels weak. For a hugh boost in TQ swap on some late model E7TE heads from an '87+ truck motor or better yet GT40s from a '96-97 Explorer 5.0 and add longtube headers, that'll bring compression up to 8.8-9.2:1 and along with the much improved cylinder scavenging provided by the longtubes you'll have tons more grunt from idle up.
OK then it has low compression smog heads and a tiny cam, so put heads and a 4bbl carb and intake on the list and pick up a Comp Cams 35-234-3 cam and lifter set in the meantime.
