He speaketh the truth. I bought mine a long time ago, so I was one of the earliest guys to change the bulbs. I got them on sale and only cost me $40 so it wasn't THAT bad. LOL
The OEM are Silverstars and the ones I got are one step above, I guess I'll go with what he said up above (Ultras). It maybe adds 20% more light but don't hold me to it exactly. I did notice a difference.
What made the biggest difference was the 2" front leveling kit. Ford putting the turn light above the headlights really stinks, but maybe it was regulated.
Still hemming and hawing between putting in an HID kit and deal with the over splash because of the bezel design or just wait and get real projectors later.
My bike has HID, my car and the wife's have Bi-Xenon and every time i get in the truck at night feels like I am driving with a wind-blown candle for forward light. LOL
If you have a little extra change laying around in you pocket go for it. I guess it's worth it. I got them pretty early on because a sale ad came in the mail for Advance Auto parts at just the right time!
i think changing just the bulbs is a waist of time and $. My headlights are great after installing the 55W HID kit from DDM Tuning: HID and LED Lighting . The kit only cost a little bit more than the Silverstar bulbs do, and you get the output you want.
I have never had anyone flash me for my headlights. I just made sure I angled them correctly after the install. It seems that the headlight assemblies on this truck produce a defined line that minimizes glare.
That was my rational for going with the DDM kit on my F150. But it didn't take long for me to realize you get what you pay for and I put the Silverstars back on the truck. The DDM kit was trouble from the get-go. It took several weeks for them to get me the correct harness. After I got them installed they were great until I had a problem with one of the bulbs. It was shaking in the housing and looked as tho it was flashing. Very annoying to anyone driving in front of me. DDM wouldn't replace under their lifetime warranty unless I un-installed the ENTIRE kit, wires ballasts bulbs and all, and sent it back to them for evaluation. No thanks, too much trouble.

you must have gotten a bad service rep. I agree about the quality of equipment, but i was willing to be patient. the first wiring harness did not function the Hi/Lo properly, so they sent me another for free. The second one didn't work either, so they sent me a 3rd....third times a charm right?
The 6000K Hi/Lo bulbs pull into the housing a fraction of an inch to reflect off the high beam section of the housing. These bulbs did not have any shake in them and were nice.
I ordered a second pair of bulbs to see if i liked the 5000K color more than the 6000K. the 5000K Hi/Lo bulbs functioned a little different, and they did shake a little when driving. instead of the bulb sucking into the housing when flipping on the high beams, the bulb tilted upward a little to move the light arc into the proper Hi beam reflectors. this bulb design was susceptible to vibration....it also did not reflect properly in the Hi position. So i just use the 6000K bulbs.
I went with DDM because it is economic, and I wanted the 55W option...since most other kits are 35W. 55W is much needed.
