HIDs?

So im looking at buying an HID kit from ebay. they sell a kit with high/low beams for around 40$. are these ebay brands worth the money? also I've heard that some vehicles need some kind of "delete" to keep the bulbs from flickering. Will I need this in my 93 F250?

Thanks

Short answer is no. To everything. Our headlight lenses do not have the correct optics for HID use. The beam will become scattered with a fuzzy cut off, increasing the risk of glare and not being very beneficial. The "correct" way to do it would be to get clear lens housings and install real, correct HID projectors inside them with the correct optics and beam pattern.

Well I am actually planning on replacing the headlight housing. I don't mind spending the extra money for quality, but I haven't been able to find a "real" setup anywhere else.. any place specific?

I bought the module lense set up with the projector low beam and turn signals down low. The corner inside LEDs died thats still a mystery, but the ones I bought I love them.
If the lenses you are talking about do not have a projector save your money. HID lights require a projector style lense to focus the light properly and not completely blind on coming traffic. I see too many people doing this and riding in them the light gets distorted and just has the HID color but no gain just light scatter.
As far as flicker, I bought a RJM headlight relay harness kit before I bought the new modules so I have never seen a flicker out of mine. In fact every light on my truck is a LED except for headlights.

My 2 cents
Curtis

If you want a factory look, you will have to do a projector retrofit. For that you will need clear housings and a set of projectors. I will post more info when I get home from work, but to put is easily, expect to pay upwards of $350 to do it right.

I'm looking to do some clear lenses with HID projector retrofit on my project truck down the road so a solid write up with lots of pictures preferably would be awesome Evan_P I've seen one on I think a Bronco site but it wasn't super detailed.

Alright, home from work. Lets see here...

What I am posting is for OBS trucks.

Here is a link to the best projector retrofit I have found.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-retrofit.html

The basic idea is that you get a set of housings with CLEAR or SMOKED lenses. Any housings with the diffused lenses will NOT work for a retrofit. For this reason alone there are currently no '87-'91 projector headlights.

Here are some examples:

Clear:
Depo Pair Euro Style Chrome Headlights Head Lamps 92 96 Ford F150 F250 Bronco | eBay

Smoked:
1992 1996 Ford F150 F250 F350 Bronco Crystal Headlight Smoke Lens 1993 1994 1995 | eBay

Once you have the clear housing you need a set of projectors and the appropriate HID kit. Here is a link to the most complete and highest quality kit I know of.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-retrofit.html

Now if you don't feel like doing the retrofit yourself, here is a guy who sells them for $350 ready to go, minus the HID kit.

80-86 and 92-96 Bi-Xenon Projector Retrofits - FSB Forums

If this is the route you go, this is the best kit you can buy for the money.

H1: Morimoto Elite HID System - HID Systems from The Retrofit Source Inc

I hope this is somewhat helpful. I can't provide a step by step rundown because I do not have projector HID's in my truck as funds do not allow for it. If there are anymore questions I will try and answer them.

Thanks for that write up That first link what extremely helpful and answered a few questions I had. I know the feeling about lack of funds. This mod will have to wait until well after I finish my build.

This sounds like something I'll want to definatly look into too. Thanks for the write up! I do have a few more questions though.. what does it mean to have the "right projectors" in order to make HIDs work? are halos the only way to go? how do I know which projectors, wiring harness, ballasts, shrouds, and halos to order from the site? the combos seem endless. I think Ill go with a 6000k bulb. also I see some headlight housings on ebay with the whole set in one (headlight, corner lens, bumper light)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190714641194?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
will these work? I apologize for my ignorance but I'm not familiar with this area..

Thanks again

No need to apologize. You are already well on your way simply because you want to know how to do it right. Here is the one you want for a retrofit made easy.

Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Kit (H1) - Complete Retrofit Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc

If you order those make sure you get the 9007 relay harness in the drop down menus. I recommend 4300k though as they are a nice white, similar to stock halogens but much brighter. The human eye can see more with a light closer to yellow. I also recommend the sealant rope tape the offer.

As for lenses you posted, yes they will work.

Right on, as far as relay harness goes. I see two options 1) MotoControl BiXenon: 9007/9004 and 2) Canbus: 9007/9004.. Do you know what the difference is?... Another question, is it possible to get the kit from ebay and put them in these projectors from ebay? 92 96 Bronco F150 F250 F350 Angel Eye Halo Black Projector Headlights Lamps | eBay

These seem to have the same style projectors/halos. I honestly dont like the look of the headlights in our 90s era trucks but it might be another option. Ill be going with the retrofit but I have some relatives that might like this option if it would work...

Thanks again

Personally i did an HID kit in my 95 with the high-beams. While it was a great improvement over the stock lighting (i also go the lights posted above) when i use the high-beam feature they flicker all the time and it drives me nuts. IMO if you want HID's don't get the high-beam option, it also doesn't get brighter just moves the light up so you can see higher up not more if you get what i mean. Personally get a relay harness and some nice halogens (along with clear lens headlights) or do an HID retrofit. I wouldn't get them for my 95 again knowing what i know now.

Is the OP looking for better lighting or specifically wanting the HID option. I love them (HIDs) on my wife's Mustang. However, I would probably look into the LED options from truck-lite for the 71 F100 I am working on when the time comes and the cash is there. I use the Truck-lite Phase 7 headlight on my Harley and it made a world of difference. Nice thing about LEDs is the low power consumption.
Oh, I tried an HID kit once. Was unimpressed. But I did not have the correct reflector to take advantage of the HID.

Those housings will work, just order 9007 hid bulbs. As for the can-bus thing, don't order that one. Order the normal moto 9007/9004 one.

In answer to hillcountryfit's question: Actually when I started looking into doing a kit I was just wanting the blueish/white look but also heard the HID's put out better light... the better visibility is mostly just a plus. However with that said when I do this I want it done right, hence the higher spending on the retrofits..

Thanks Evan_P, you've been a BIG help in sorting out the confusion and options. Thanks everyone for your input and comments. More welcome! I'll keep y'all posted if I have any more questions or get ready to install the kit.
