Just purchased my first F150 (first ford Product), The Truck is a 2001 F150 4x4 with the 4.6 v8 XLT. Was wondering what i should expect out of this truck and what works best on this engine for better mpg or performance. I know i have a 4x4 v8 so my gas mileage isnt goin to be great (my first truck was a 1993 Dakota with a 5.2 which got 11 city and 14 to 15 hwy) so its already goin to be a upgrade. any replies will be great
Welcome, I don't think you'll do much better in the mileage department than your Dakota even with the smaller 4.6 as the F150 4x4 is a heavier vehicle. I, myself wouldn't waste time trying for performance as a heavy truck needs torque to move, something a small engine doesn't make normally aspirated without piles of money invested. I'd just make sure all the fluids are good, check one spark plug and change the sparks plugs and plug boots if worn, pcv, air filter and clean the throttle body. Checking for wear on suspension and steering parts and then greasing the front end. Check the brake pad lining thickness is also a good idea and make sure all lighting works if a vehicle safety isn't performed in your location. Good luck.
im olannin on goin through and checking the fluids and all that on my next day off work, then i have to find out where the rear window is leaking, was driving to work in the rain and i had water dripping down on my back
