Unhappy Airbag light reset

like RYVVY34, I am also having a air bag problem. I had a code 12 and found ablown fuse and repaired it. Now I have a code 52 that tells me from what i understand, that i used to have a problem with the battery power to the module. My question is can i reset this light myself or do i have to goto the dealer? The truck is a 96 explorer 4.0 Eddie bauer. Thanks

Airbag light reset

If you have truly fixed the problem, you should be able to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect. This will clear the error codes from the system from what I understand. If the code appears again, you may still have another problem.

Good luck.

Airbag light reset

Thanks Dennyge for the reply, but i have tried that and it still gives a code 52. I may be wrong but I beleive this is because I lost battery power to the module and it has been corrected. But the code remains so that you know you may have a intermitent problem with your power supply. If anyone can give me a solid answer on a code 52 meaning i would appreciate it. THANKS!!!

Airbag light reset

Your LFC 52 means "lost battery feed or low battery voltage". I replied to this (or a thread very similar) yesterday but can't find my post Here is what I said yesterday:

Air-bag codes that are stored in the SRS computer will not be cleared by disconnecting your battery. Your SRS computer has an internal power backup system that will retain the code for much longer than you will want to wait. For a problem that set a code in your SRS computer that is now fixed, there are two ways that the code will be cleared. Depending on fault condition, the code will either be cleared as soon as the problem is fixed or in most cases will require 256 clear "On-Demand Self Tests" before the light will clear. In my experiences with my air-bag system, most conditions fall under the latter category. Each time you turn your key from off to run, your SRS computer will go through the On-Demand Self Test. The test is complete when the air-bag light goes off. If a fault was detected within the last 256 tests, your air-bag light will flash a code. You can clear the code one of two ways (provided the root cause has been fixed). One way is by having someone with a scanner that is capable of accessing the SRS computer clear the code for you. They will most likely charge you to do this and may even require you to pay them to verify that the problem is really fixed prior to them clearing the light. The second way (which is what I did when I removed my air-bag fuse while my pregnant Wife was driving the Explorer) is by turning your key from off to on 256 times to clear the code. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to do this but it was free. I knew the problem didn't exist anymore since I put the fuse back in. I also disconnected the wire connector from the top of the emergency fuel pump shutoff box under the front passenger side carpet. I did this to avoid having my fuel pump cycle each time I turned my key to on. Each time you turn your key on, you have to wait until the air-bag light flashes. Once it does, you can turn your key off and repeat the process. After you have done this 256 times, the light won't flash again (provided the problem has been fixed).
