good day all my 78/79 w/460s pickups have the p.s. pumps with the plastic reservoir and as i dont drive them that much they seem to leak between the pump and the plastic i have tried the seal kit and it lasts for a while my question is has any one converted theirs to the "old style" steel pump? [from 76 back] i can get the pump,new hose,dipstick cap but i dont know if it will bolt to my stock bracket or if the pully is the same
any help on this? or if some of you have pics of your system or have the bracket to sell that would be great thank you!!

 

Plastic reservoir P/S pump introduced in 1978 on everything except Econolines and Passenger Cars with Hydro-Boost (use Saginaw P/S pump).

Plastic reservoir P/S pressure hose at the pump end has a straight tube with an O-ring on it. Connects to the pump with a qwik connect fitting.

1965/77 steel reservoir pump P/S pressure hoses have female threads, thread onto the pump.

Plastic reservoir pump is a different shape than steel pumps, mounting brackets are different.

P/S pulley same with plastic/steel reservoir pumps.

Ford supplied the plastic reservoir by itself. It tends to warp due to engine heat. Replace the reservoir, problem solved.

1985: FoMoCo replaced E1AZ-3A697-A with E5DZ-3A697-A & YF1Z-3A006-AA .. Dipstick / So both the reservoir and the dipstick have to be replaced.

I changed mine out on my 79 400 for a saginaw type pump (used on ford vans and alot of chebbes), had to order a new bracket and custom hose. Very happy with it so far.
