Installing Mechanical Tach

I got a great NOS mechanical tach off of eBay. I have installed electrical tachs but have no idea how to do this one. I assume it hooks into the transmission but what cable do I need and how do I do it? Thanks.

It hooks into the dizzy, you need one with a tach drive.

If I'm not mistaken, some of the Edsels had mechanical tach drive dizzys, as did the FT engines, but the FT dizzy won't fit an FE block. Or so I understand.

Which motor do you have in your truck?

I have the original 352 in my 67 F-100 4 spd Camper Special. I guess I should have looked into this a little before I bought it. I was just taken with it and got caught up in the eBay moment! So, where would a guy get this special distributor or should I look upon my new acquisition as an excellent accessory for my computer desk?

The mechanical tachs were mainly used on the ford tractors of the day. They were driven off of the dizzy and the generator. I've seen this question in the 61-66 forum before and I don't think anyone ever found a solution.

Thanks. Well, I will enjoy my mechanical tach as a desktop accessory. It registers to 4,000 rpm which would have been fine for my old 352 that has probably never experienced any rev over 3K. If I ever figure out how to get it working, I'll post the solution.
