You know, its been a serious thought of mine...but as sacrilegious as I'm being with the whole "throwing away everything but the body" thing, I kinda wanna stick with the wrong bed! You don't see many of em out there, much less extensively modified, and I've always liked being different haha. We'll have to wait and see, I'm sure there is going to be a lot of figuring stuff out as we go along!
Heck, find a 61-63 shortbed uni that still has good rear quarters on it and turn yours into a uni!!

That just seems too mainstream hahahahaha. Nothing against any of the unibody guys, but them and the "right" shortbed guys seem to be the focal point for F100 modification at this time. I'm not one to follow trends, and the wrongbed is almost endearing to me-in primerish white, really low and loud I think it could be a bad *** wrongbed done right!

It's all good. It's your truck. Have fun with it! If they all looked alike, that wouldn't be any fun. The 64-66 styleside shortbeds are pretty hard to find anyway. Nobody will care if you cut up a wrong bed....

Very true! Going to need to find out how MauraderPU got his 04 8.8 to sit right under the truck-maybe sticking with the steelie cop wheels will help my offset challenges haha.

He has the late model mustang wheels on it. The offset on the rims make it work. The wrongbed has a whole different wheel well, which should give you a little more tire clearance on the outside.

The wrongbed having a little more clearance is good news! I'm sure I'll be trimming the wheelwell edges down a bit either way-I work at a Lexus bodyshop/parts dept and I've seen a couple IS wheel designs I think would look great on this truck, and they come in 5x4.5 (same as the Mustang and Crown Vic) so thats another goal for the truck

Thanks for the measurements, sounds like I won't need to worry too much about the difference.
The car's payment has been sent, shipping arraignments have been made so hopefully it will be here by the end of next week! Got a SMOKIN deal on the car

Congrats on the Crown Vic. Specs say it has 115" wheel base, which is what you would want anyway. The problem with the 114" wheelbase on the 61-64 trucks is when you lower them the front wheels look way off center in the wheelwell. Most aftermarket front suspension kits recommend moving the centerline forward an inch or two when installing them on the straight axle trucks.
Anyway, good luck with the frame swap. Post lots o pics. We like pics!!

Yeah, I'm lookin at a 114.7 wheelbase, so the wheels should fit really nice with the 5+ inch drop on all 4 corners. I had done quite a bit of research on just doing the 03+ Crown Vic front IFS swap so I had planned on moving the front up about an inch (due to the fact I'll be dropping it further once I have it running right and sitting right).
Pics are what I do but nothing to update right now haha-once the CVPI is in my possession I'll snap some! Also will probably start pulling up the carpet in the interior of the F100, and maybe look at pulling the hood off too (since either way I need a new one) so I can have a good idea of how bad the floors look from above.
Happy to see another wrong bed out there!! Sounds like youve got good plans for the truck. The wrong bed makes for some interesting questions about just what make your truck is. Ive had ppl ask me if it was an International, a C***y, or a dodge and the guesses on the years have ranged from 53 to 75, its all part of the fun
Your truck and posts are one of the few out there that made me want to keep my wrongbed hahaha-I figure sometimes you've just gotta embrace being "different" and this is one of those times!
Finally was able to sneak out of work and get the "cop car" some temp plates-within the next 30 days she'll be off the road and under the knife/on her way to a new body! In the meantime I plan on DDing her, seeing if there are any major flaws or issues. So far the only thing I've noticed is a few spots of oil after driving/letting the motor warm up-could be any number of things, but it runs well and doesn't seem to eat oil as far as I can tell so we should be ok there. Drove it home tonight (left the Lightning at the shop all alone... ) and it drove great-funny to watch people hit their brakes and change lanes to let the car go by! I only have one poor quality picture from the night she came in, but here it is!
Project got delayed to get through the holidays and deal with all the costs that come with them. Dont worry though, its really happening! Also, bought a plasma cutter (split it with the guy who is going to be basically building this truck with) so cutting the bed/floor/Crown Vic will be much easier now! Looking to start the project two weekends from now, cant wait!
not sure if this is right someone let us know but i,ve always heard these beds were surplus from 59 or 60 and were put on trucks being sold to rural areas used for farm trucks
