Upper radiator support

Im trying to figure what all arts and pieces i have and looking for part number 8162...the upper radiator support I think it called. Might anybody have any leads? This does not show up in any catalog I've looked at...

Figure this is an important part that will allow be to latch the hood along with piece number 8221.

Any help appreciated...thanks

It's not available new, you will have to find a used one, and yes, you will need it, is what the hood latches to. They are different for a V8 and the 6. The V8 is the deeper one, the 6 isn't so deep. What engine do you have? I might have some extras if you can't source one locally.

Radiator shroud

Hi Gary, I have been looking for the better part of 2 years for the shroud Part # 8162 for the 226 straight 6. If you have one I would be very interested. The one I have is for the V8 and like you said is too deep and won't fit. Thanks, Cary

If I'm going to put a 351 in, which do I want, the straight 6 or v8. The shallower one would give me more room....right?

Thanks fir any input.

Yes, the 6-cyl version would give you more room. Just look at the rad. surround mount holes in the inner wells and on the frame. You'll see you pick up about 3 inches.

Thanks John,

If I end up with the deeper V8 version, does anything prevent me from trimming it smaller?

thanks again..

Nothing really. The upper portion is "gasketed" to the radiator and only bolted to the grill assembly. Getting a nice "roll" and bend would be the most difficult. Here's a pict of the 6-cyl version:

Thanks ...do you have any more pics? Kind of hard to see the details with all that shiny black paint!

What does that part bolted to the front of the shroud do? I just picked up that part on ebay and since I haven't seen a complete 47 in person yet, i'm don't know what that part does.

thanks

The front part is what connects to the underside of the hood and (hopefully) holds it down. I have this picture that's a little farther away, but no all black and shiny...

Here's some picts:

8-cyl in front, 6 cyl in back..

Close up of hook latch:

Here's nose without shroud.. The grill has welded nuts (underside) along the edge where the shroud bolts. The hook is safety feature which grabs the inner front of the hood. At the center of the hood there is a u-shaped scallop and a second piece of reinforcing metal tacked to keep the hood from opening if the nose trim latch piece comes unlatched from the roller (above the hook in the 2nd pict.)

Here's one not so black & shiny....

Hope it helps..
