300 Hardware Help

Hey guys,
I'm replacing my cylinder head, intake and exhaust manifolds, and valve cover on the 4.9L 300 in my 1985 F150 and I'm looking for bolts and washers for everything. I don't want to use the old hardware that is currently on the engine. I've looked through FTE but couldn't find the info I needed, but maybe I overlooked a thread. Where can I get hardware for my engine?

Most everything you are looking for can be found from, Summit Racing, Jegs, Clifford performance. That is just a few, pretty sure a google search may turn up more.

Most all of the hardware can be acquired from a fastener store. The only ones that may be difficult are the stock thick washers that are on the intake/exhaust. Those are about $10 each from Ford. ($130 for just washers!?)

I replaced all of my intake/exhaust bolts with studs and then used two washers with a split washer. A little more hardware but it works really well.

All the other bolts, like the valve cover, lifter cover, manifold to exhaust, etc. are just standard stuff.

Be sure, though, that whatever you get, get all Grade 8. Especially on the intake/exhaust. Last thing you want is bolts snapping.

Anyone ever used LMCTruck catalogs? They show replacement parts down to every screw and washer - maybe you wouldn't use it for the stuff you want real quality on, but...?

I've used LMC several times for parts not found elsewhere. They are quite proud of their parts.

Headbolts dot com has a very good selection of bolts, etc., for the 240/300. They even have camshaft thrust plates, and those are difficult to find. A lot of their stuff is ARP, which is tip top quality. Good luck.

Yes LMC is a good resource, also Concours Parts, and NPD, and Dennis Carpenter catalog. Also Bob'sf100, just to name a few. I have been bumping the prices together to see where you can get the best deal. So far, they are all about even.

I'm sorry but LMC isn't a place I'd buy any important engine fasteners/hardware from. When it comes to important hardware I prefer some made in the US! Everything I've ever ordered from LMC has been imported. Unless they have changed in the last year or so.

And I avoid Bob's F100's at all cost!!

The engine is a big investment so I like to spend a little extra and get the good quality hardware.

I prefer everything from the USA as well. Just listing the only parts catalogs I can find for the 240/300 engine. Plus these are the only catalogs i have found so far for my 66. Don't worry I love my american truck as well.

Oh forgot one more catalog and that is Blue Oval Truck Parts, haven't recieved my yet, hopefully will be in the mail today.

I wasn't trying to get on your case or anything. And I wasn't trying to stand on my "made in the USA" soap box. I buy plenty of imported parts. It's getting hard to find any that aren't imported.

I was just trying to say that the engine fasteners/hardware are important enough to spend a little extra for better quality stuff. If the hardware fails it can do a lot of expensive damage.

I figured for really important stuff it would mean researching and finding the best quality made parts - but for hard to find door handles (or the padded armrests that always seem to deteriorate faster than anything else on the truck), etc or that stupid screw that fell out of the passenger side pillar all those years ago so the piece rattles like crazy... curious if anyone has used them and what their overall experience was like.
