got her at an insurance auction for $6300. 2002 7.3 with 148k. I have always wanted a diesel and seems like they are selling pretty high if in great shape or they have high 200-250k miles and still want a good penny for the 7.3s. Since ill be keeping it i didnt mind the salvage title as i know ill fix it with love.
I have never owned a disel or anything bigger than a 4 cylinder toyota pick up and a 305 chevy blazer, so this diesel thing is new to me, im just hoping i remember to fill up with diesel LOL
i drove it home from the auction and here is how it sits at the moment. my goal right now is to try and find some white doors and then put it on a frame and start pulling and/or drilling out some supports or panels that need to be replaced.
finally got it on a frame, hopefully it all lines up perfectly. Seems like most of the damage was visual, like door shells, side step, rocker outer shell. didnt go in as much as i thought.
my goal is to upgrade wheels and tires, convert front to a 05-07 and rear tailgate to newer models that say "super duty" i think those are 07 and up, im not sure yet, and im not sure if it will fit right up either , any tips on that?
While anything is possible I bet the rattle under the hood will keep reminding you which pump to pull up to. Seems like the problems start when these trucks are loaned to friends without a clue.
If it ran and drove fine, frame straight, than that's not a bad deal. A/c, cruise. 4 x 4, and all the regular goodies work? Windows, at least driver's side? Air bags in tact?

drives straight, gotta check 4x4, cruise control and AC works, driver seat motor doesnt work, all windows and locks work etc...
The 08 tail gate will work, you just need to change the drivers side hinge, pretty straight forward just 2 bolts. I am almost positive it is as follows (FORD OEM ROLLER 4L3Z-83430B39-AA)
I got mine on ebay for like 13 bucks, but I cant find it again for you.

Good luck with the truck

Be cautios when removing the old hinge torx head bolts. They have some strong thread-lock on them and tht torx head is easy to strip out.
Also you can get a tailgate with or without the built in steps. Both fit.
thanks guys for that info, ill keep an eye out for the tailgate to do an upgrade eventually.

Nice low miles.
it was a side low hit, it shouldnt effect the bags at all or the sensors. it should be all just fine.
guy did a good job pulling out the side, doors installed and all about 99% lines up, a might just leave it for now, and later on adjust the doors tiny bit more to get all the gaps perfect, but for now its great.
i sure hate the turning radius on this thing lol, my work semi truck makes better turns LOL, i wonder if smaller or bigger tires would make a difference at all...
Looking pretty good. Finish up that paint and good to go. Yeah, these trucks don't turn tight at all so I just park in the back 40 and walk. Figure I need the exercise anyway. I must say I am impressed with the ride quality of mine, for a 3/4 ton truck I think it rides and handles quite well. Probably better than my old 94 1/2 ton. I test drove a 2500 dodge (dare I admit to it) before I bought mine and I was not impressed at all, felt like one of those big old motor homes going down the road swaying all over.

Nice looking truck! As for the turning radius, it is what it is! Since you drive a semi, you know all about using your mirrors!
