I'm looking to replace the shocks on my '04 F350 SRW 6.0. I purchased the truck used two years ago and use it to tow my 5er. Well actually haven't towed my 5er in awhile, but will be doing so in a few months. This is my first truck I've owned and unfortunately I've hand many issues. I'd upgrade to a newer truck if I could afford it.
Currently I have Rancho shocks installed. Are these a good quality shock? Any recommendations on different shocks. Again I'll be towing a 13,000lb 5er across country. I'm making an appointment to have both my door locks replaced, been broken into twice since being in Dallas, and if this dealership is actually honest I'll have them replace the shocks.
Sorry, haven't had any luck with Ford dealership service departments. I'm 5 for 6 on lies and shoddy work. This is my second attempt in the Dallas area, 1st one unsuccessful.
Any info on shocks would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Chances are good that you have OEM shocks labeled as Rancho. Is your truck an FX4 trim? If so, those white with red boot shocks are barely up to the job.
Rancho is a good shock, but you have to choose the right model. I think you would be happy with Rancho RS7000. The RS5000 is too light for these trucks, although they can get the job done. The RS9000 is probably more shock than you need.
The Bilstein is also a good shock. That's what I run.
I would NOT let the Ford dealer sell me shocks. Buy them yourself online, and either install them yourself, or any shop can do it for you.
Thank you both for replying. Yes, it is the FX4 trim. The shocks on the rear say Rancho and they are yellow with the red boot,( I have yet to find any pictures to match what's on the truck) and the ones on the front are just yellow and I don't see any writing. They may still be a competent shock, but with everything else that's been going wrong with this truck I'd rather be safe than sorry especially towing my 5er.
I'll start looking into the suggestion that you both have given me. I don't tow my 5er very often but when I do it's over a good distance. Mainly I drive it around once a week or to get supplies. Now only if I could find a good mechanic in my area I'd quit going to the dealerships. I'm also very limited in my mechanical abilities. Thanks again.
