Thanks Joe.
So, could I hypothetically get a 265/65 tire and it would work fine on my X or not?
Found these for sale " Michelin LTX A/T 2 Load range E tires that are size 265/75/16"
He says they have 15k miles on them. Is under $500 bucks for the tires ONLY a good buy?
Thanks
Checkout tirerack.com, to get an idea of tire prices, brands, sizes.
New Michelin OWL (outline white letter) tires are $200-$220 EACH.
Then you pay more for installation, disposal, balance, alignment....
PLan on $1200 complete - I'd recommend a tire place with the
lifetime alignment for $129 - you will be there often.
NOTE: The Excursion is long and NOT all shops can align them, check first.
Provided the tires you found aren't feathered or worn badly/unevenly
that could be a good deal at %50 the price of new tires, do you have
peace of mind trusting these tires (I don't buy used tires).
Nope, no way to know if they're good but I'll give it a shot. Gotta take risks in life and by the way, my ford dealer gave me a better price on the same tires than the tire rack...?
Anyway, I just committed to buying the michelins and since I do keep my promises, I guess I'm done
If anyone wants to respond regardless, I'm always up for good advice.
I like reading online reviews of tires, it's how I chose my set. Often times people comment on different handling characteristics and help you choose how well it suits your needs! I've been very pleased so far
I may be the exception to the rule. I went FROM the LTX tires to a Kelly. I did a LOT of research pre-purchase and ended up going with the Kelly Safari ATR in a 285/75, Load E tire.
I have put maybe 10K miles on them since purchase, they are wearing just fine with a combo of heavy towing, light towing and DD function. They also took out of LOT of the slop/sway that I had been getting previously as well.
All that, plus about $60 less per tire, I'm certainly not complaining in the least. Any time I save $300 on a set of tires, I'm a happy camper.
for what it's worth, had these for $200 each to my door.
Well, I'll let you guys know. My front wheels vibrate a lot and they tell me it could be a belt in the tire but they also said that one of my tire rods is loose so I figured I'd put the new tires on first and see if THAT makes a difference and then I'll get the tire rod fixed.
I really can't say enough good about the Michelins. I went with 285's on the stock rims, they do not rub, and according to my GPS my speedo is off about 1 mph. I posted about them with pics here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post12307272
Well, I got my new/used tires on and they look good and they ride better. I guess the problem WAS a busted belt in one of the front wheels. Anyway, I had the bad one marked for future reference since I kept all my old tires.
Had them put the best one on for a spare and they did all this for $48 which I thought was very reasonable.
Now, my wheels do NOT vibrate any longer although one tire rod is still lose so I'll have that one replaced next week sometime but I'm a happy camper.
I'll take some pics and post in a few days. The guy at the tire place thought I might get 40k+ miles on these as he said they last longer than the ones I had and they lasted me 65k more or less and I still had decent thread on them.
Again, thanks all for the help and dammit, I'm glad I looked on craigslist. Hell, if I can get 30k miles for 400 bucks, I'm happy
