Okay, I'm getting ready to buy a starter for Big Blue (name was on the windshield when I bought it), and the Bronc I just picked up yesterday. I just want to try the bronc motor, so 1 starter will do both...
Anyway, they both are 351-w (yes I'm sure) 4-spds, what's the best starter and the best place to get it (regular or High Torque mini)?
I found these High Torque Mini's from JBG, but first, what's the difference (other than part #), and second they look chinease made, so anybody use them/ are they any good?
I have seen those chinese reduction starters not keep constant gear mesh depth with the ring gear. Wipes out a few teeth on the ring. Honestly, your best bet is to find a rebuild shop to put in all new quality internals in yours. Most shops that do truck and tractor starters can take care of yours. Sometimes you can have them put a better armature more windings for more torque. The main design of the ford starter is lacking since it uses one of the case/pole magnets to pull down the shoe to engage the bendix. This robs some of the magnetic field from that magnet as the armature passes it.

If I had a starter I'd have it rebuilt, but I don't, therefore I ask this question...
I bought a autozone reman just to try it out, the dern thing is already going bad... so I'll be taking it back and buying another one in a few daiys...
