Changing a 98 Ranger Driver's 60/40 Seat Cover
My 98 Ranger's interior is starting to show it's age and mileage. It's just about to hit 290,000 miles on the body and interior. It's had a factory repaint so the exterior looks pretty good. But the carpet is getting shaggy and a few of the dash trim pieces have broken due to use. However, the driver's seat has the most wear on it. The bottom part is what needs to be changed. It has a hole that's getting ever bigger. I absolutely cannot find a replacement seat at a salvage yard anywhere around. I found one today but the handle on the recliner part was broken and I gave up trying to figure out to get it off. I tried to remove the bottom seat cushion cover but didn't have tools to take everything off because of the torx bolts. I was wondering is it worth looking for a replacement seat, trying to salvage the seat cushion cover that I found, if it's still there when I go back, or having a shop recover it. The passenger seat is perfect so I would hate to have to get both seats recovered plus I won't have a seat to drive the truck in when it's being recovered. Now I'm in North GA and the amount of salvage yards around here is limited. If there was a seat available within a reasonable distance I would drive and get it. The cushion covers are no longer in exsistence from Ford and even if they were I was told just the bottom cost over $1000. It's the graphite gray cloth 60/40 bench. Any recommendations?

Most seats just bolt to the bottom bracket. Its the bottom bracket that has the special made for your truck bends and bolt holes.
So just about any seat that has same measurement will work. The top part of the seat will just unbolt and you can bolt on a newer seat. My 06 has the same brackets and all so nothing needs changing. So look for a newer interior.
And if your area does not have any good stuff, get to looking for a few U pull it yards within driving distance. Most larger towns have them and normally where there is 1 there is 2. So you can go and compare. Make a day of it and get all the bits and pieces you need. Interior trim and seats are always cheap at junk yard. they want that stuff out any way, it takes away from scrap weight when they finish scraping the cars.

Also to add, the 60 40 deal. The seat cushions are the same on both sides. Once the covers are taken off you will see that the actual setting parts are the same. the extra 20% part on the drivers side is just a rectangular piece not attached to the main seat.
I just took a set of 06 seats apart. And have taken a pile of others apart.
So instead of just looking for that 60 40 deal you can go take just the passenger side setting part. Hell even the backs are the same. I just bought a truck that must have been owned by fatA. And the driver seat was pretty mashed. I just uncovered it and swapped the setting part and back cushion part with the passenger side.
