Now i cant get her to start at all. Also the heat line (not sure what its actual name is) that goes from the block to the choke on the carb is broken. Since that wont work im guessing, ill bring a friend over and have him slowly choke it while i try to fire it up.
That should not stop it from starting. that helps warm the choke spring so it opens as the motor gets warmer. Pump the gas about 3-4 times should do the trick if everything is ok other then the warm air tube then just Hit the starter. if your didn't screw something up.
The choke may hang up 1/2 closed after it warmed up with out the tube tho! orich

Well when i tried starting it it was about 35 degrees out. And i have always had to prime it 4-5 times to get it started.
These old classic carbs when to cold or up in mountains altitude have been known to pull the choke closed way to tight not giving it enough air to fire up but just flooding it. The old trick was to set a small tool like screw driver inside the choke horn & butterfly to hold it open just enough to get air to fire up..orich
On my 69, I tried different spacers to no avail. Started out with the original one with coolant going through it. I could not find a 2 bbl. phenolic one though.
Tried the acetone thing, don't work. Diesel in the gas will go past the rings and end up in the oil.
I have the original spacer with the coolant lines going trough it.
Got home from visiting my grandpa at the VA about an hour ago and went right to work. Plugged my block heater in to see if it works. Used a screw driver to hold the choke open while trying to start it. With a little gas down the intake i got it to fire but wont run more than a second or to.
i heard some bubbeling noises coming from the block heater and decided to grap it and see if it was hot........ And oh boy was it hot. Ended up jumping back and bashing my head on the hood latch. Little bit of blood but nothing to bad.
I am going to take the carbs air horn off in a few to see if the float bowl has any gas in it. If not I'll add some and try to get it started guys. I'll check back in around 6:30 or so.
Pump the linkage while looking into the carb and you should see the gas coming out two little streams.,if not it could be a blockage in the tank, a bad one of two rubber hose sucking air. A bad fuel pump or the built in filter in it bottom canister can. Or the carb accelerator pump.. So if you find gas in the carb then I'd say that's mostly it but also check other things I listed to make sure they're all good to go... orich

When the trucks running? That sounds pretty scarry seeing how she occasionally backfires. But ill try.
