Friend has some type of oil or trans. fluid in his radiator. How can you tell the differance? The trans.was just rebuilt in Aug.
The engine is not overheating and there is no water in the oil. That leads me to believe it's not a headgasket.I'm I wrong about that?
The radiator was bought new last year and has less that 1,500 miles on it.
Thanks for the help-Ken
And by the way it's a '73 2WD C6 trans. 360C.I.
How's the fluid level for the tranny? Idk about your model, but my 1978 w/ 300-6 has a line that pulls tranny fluid through the radiator (for cooling, I assume) perhaps something could be busted or cracked?
Check the transmission fluid for contamination. If it is a pink milkshake color, that is indicates water/coolant has mixed with the transmission fluid. The trans cooler in the radiator may be leaking.
Don't wait on this too long. Coolant in the transmission fluid can cause the glue that holds the friction material to the band and clutches to fail, then you will need a trans rebuild also.
A quality radiator repair shop should be able to pressure test the trans cooler and make any repairs if needed.
Oil getting in the coolant is possible but note that the oil drainback passages from the cylinder heads would need to take an arduous route to through a failing head gasket to get into the coolant passages.
