C600 questions
Good day every one.
Few questions for you all.
First things first the truck is a 66 C600 with a 300-6 and a 4 speed manual.
one issue we have had is starters. one would assume that a 6cyl starter for a manual would fit. But it doesn't. They grind on the ring gear. Last week we did an engine swap and found what I think would cause the confusion. The engine has an adapter plate on the back of it to fit with the industrial tranny. Note what starter should I order? I assume for a V8 but what one.
Wheels and tires are becoming an issue. The truck is running split rims and 7X20 tires. All our local shops tell me I have to upgrade all my wheels cause tires aren't available. Any ideas on how to do this on a budget?
Thanks in advance.
Dave

One issue we have had is starters. one would assume that a 6cyl starter for a manual would fit. But it doesn't. They grind on the ring gear.
Last week we did an engine swap and found what I think would cause the confusion. The engine has a standard equipment spacer plate on the back of it to fit with the industrial tranny.
Transmission either a Warner T-18 (reverse is up-towards the dash) or New Process 435 (reverse is down-towards the seat), neither is considered "industrial."
Note what starter should I order? I assume for a V8 but what one.

Different 240/300 starters: A/T, and several M/T's. 240/300 M/T starter used on Econolines, F100/350's is not the same as C500/600, F500/600.
C/F500/600 300 I-6 uses a different flywheel (2 different as it depends on the clutch size) and ring gear (184T) than an Econoline or F100/350 (164T).
