Well, I stopped my top work project today. New intercooler boots, new hpop lines, rebuild fuel bowl, 50c mod, ccv mod, changed oil/filter[t6], fix a broken fuel heater/water in fuel connection and swapped out 4 glow plugs...they were all good, so I ohmed the rest instead of swapping them out. I rebuilt all the hpop hose quick connect fittings. I was going to go through the hpop itself, but, I'd just had enough of top work for one session. I spent 3 days jacking with that burger...it was a bitch! It started kinda' slowly...I pulled the icm relay, cranked it 10 secs...reinstalled it, cranked, oh probably 8 secs, it started and ran well, no stumbling or rough running. Went for a test drive...goosed it and blew the hot side intercooler boot! Stuck it back on and tightened the dickens out of it...runs good and my egt's seem to have dropped by another 100 degs. Was running around 600 around town, now around 500. I'll get on the highway tomorrow and see what it does. It was lovely, but, I'm am so glad it's over! Sore hands, beaten body...I hate paying someone else to mess my stuff up, but, sometimes I just wish I was rich enough to do it and bitch about someones shoddy work! Oh well, I'll forget all this in a coupla' months and want to get the hpop oring/gaskets on and my driveline up to speed...I may just drop the drive shaft and take it to a shop and let them do the ujoints and carrier bearing. It would be worth it to avoid the aggravation. I filled up that darned hpop forever and it never overflowed! I could see the oil about an eighth on a inch below the top...but it wouldn't fill up the rest of the way. Finally just buttoned it up...started and ran fine. I don't have a boost guage...figured all its really good for is a bragging point...and once in awhile to see what it's doing. Soon as I hit the lotto...well, that's all for now.
Did you check your oil level in the pan after you filled the hpop reservoir? How much oil did you add? The oil will overflow back into the pan and never reaches the hole. Note the inlet passages in this illustration.
