Here in edmonton trucks are VERY predominant and almost all of them are new seeing as theres lots of money in this area. the ford dealerships all have a newspaper article hanging in the parts department about thieves stealing Ford tailgates!
many ford tailgates have the steps in them, cameras, handles and can cost up to $8,000 to replace. they are fast and easy to steal and can be sold quickly for a few grand. ****ing thieves, people work hard for their stuff! i hate thieves.
Caption read the minivan! Gotta lock up my seat.
What has this world come to?
Thieves steal a/c coils to recycle for $$$$.
Time to return to the wild west style justice.
Can't say it surprises me. My existing protection system would work just fine for this though.
I don't have Jimmi Jammers, Ravelco, Viper, or any other anti-theft system. I carry comprehensive insurance and don't worry about it. Just the act of breaking into the back of my Ex would cause enough damage for an insurance claim to be filed, so beyond that I could really care less.
I have 2 for sale. One out of a 2001 Navi (tan) and one out of a 1998 Expe (gray). I listed them on CL for weeks at a time; and at the time went as low as 300 for the Expe and 500 (leather) for Navi. I never got a call.

i have full coverage too, but its not worth it.I have a viper system installed to deter thieves, if i can avoid the hassle of dealer with insurance and trying to prove everything or else they deny my claims... no thanks.
plus that insurance claim requires a deductible... either way YOU LOSE!!
as a side note my 3rd row seat is in my bedroom being used as a couch! in its place i have a full toolbox strapped down!
That sucks! Amazing they would run up a driveway in the middle of the day to do this!
I as well agree we need wild west sort of crime control these days! Start offing some criminals and I bet crime would go down quite a bit!
With the laws we have now days our hands are tied and in fact thieves are protected more than the victims... Just sick!
So you're saying that they didn't have crime back then? Crime rates are lower now then they ever have been, and imposing draconian punishments on people will cause more innocent deaths than less.
You can't create a utopian society through violence.

Maybe I should re list them for much higher now
I paid $9 for a tan leather X 3rd row summer before last. It was at a yard sale in Tulsa. The Mrs. of the house put it on CL and pulled it out from under a pile of stuff when I got there. It was covered in cat hair and had remnants of Cokes and milk spilled on it (from years past...). I forgot what she was asking, but I reached in my pocket and pulled out $9 and she said 'Take it!'. I figured for that price I had to have it.
It cleaned up nicer than the one in my X!!
I thought about getting the mounts/belts/etc from a wrecked X and making a 4rth row seat - but there just isn't enough room.
Now, its just taking up space in my garage - I'm either gonna remove the skin and save that or just sell it...........

I agree things were a bit out of control in those days. I was just implying that putting down a criminal insures they won't come back and try again. I would doubt we would have very many "innocent" deaths. If you want to stay alive just don't go walking around on other peoples properties and don't steal their stuff. It also reduces taxes because we are feeding and housing less inmates.
The video mentions the thefts are higher in TX and CA, which makes me wonder if the thieves are hoping to sell the seats to people who buy SUV's from insurance companies. I know when coyotes (human smugglers) steal SUV's they pull the seats out to fit more people cargo inside. After they trash the vehicle and dump it the insurance companies auction them off.
Either that or the thieves want some nice leather "porch furniture".
I saw that on TV too. When I drove my Ex more frequently, I kept the 3rd row seat in the basement because the cargo space was needed more often than people space.

Yup, but the problem with such severe penalties is that it would make crooks that much more desperate to not get caught. So instead of taking off when someone stumbles upon a robbery in progress, they'd kill him or her instead. The unintended consequences could be huge in this case.
Seats are getting stolen but people aren't being killed. You can never completely stop seats from being taken, but trading off a few less seats being stolen with a few more innocent people being killed really seems foolish to me.
