Those are the numbers I expected. I have a regular cab XLT with 3:31 gears.
Mine is a crew cab 10K GVWR... by the way.. if you tow it takes a good number of miles for the computer to adjust to not towing for the mpg reading.. Also... when on the highway.. reset the mpg reading and it'll be closer than if you reset it and drive a few miles of stop & go before hitting the highway...
That is what my tests indicate… I ran the truck for 2K miles without the additive with a hand calculated mileage of 20.1 mpg on trips longer than 100 miles. Then added the cetane booster from Ford to a nearly empty tank.. 33 gal to fill and drove round trip to Dallas total trip 248 miles (empty going and a 500 pound load coming back) then filled up at the same pump and hand calculated the 22.6 mpg…
Ran with additive for 4 weeks with several trips of 100 plus miles under various load conditions but no towing all fill-ups showed similar results…
To test if it were just the engine “breaking in” although the increase was almost instantaneous I drove the truck for 2 tanks without adding the booster… the results were a decrease in mileage to almost the same mpg as before I started adding the booster..
I then started the booster again and back to 22.6- and even once 23.2…. I’m convinced that it works at least for the fuel from this particular station… It could vary if I were more random in my choice of fueling stations… but this one is handy to my work and pumps a lot of diesel so I feel safe using their product..
My conclusions are that my engine is noticeably quieter and the mileage is better… by my calculations I’m coming out about $11 ahead of the game to the tank over the price of the additive.
So I decided to buy a 2012 truck with the 6.7. What a beast while towing.
What the heck should I really expect for fuel economy? Ther are times when I am getting ~20 mpg at 60mph then it will start dropping rapidly down to 11.5. This concerns me.
What is causing this?
What are you getting?
I am at the lower end of the fuel mileage scale. The best around town/highway fuel mileage is 13.5 MPG. When towing I get an even 10 MPG. I don't know why it is soo low. The dealer says I am dring too fast/hard. I am very easy on the throttle. I have about 20K miles on the truck.
People on this forum don't have an idea as to why my fuel mileage is so low.

Weight of the stuff in the truck, the weight, rolling and wind resistance of the trailer, the gear ratio play a major part in how much fuel mileage you get... that and your foot..
Hauling that trailer and getting 10 mpg ain't that bad..
I really don't think weight makes much difference on these trucks, At least now once you get rolling and stay at highway speeds. Stop and go, I'm sure it does.
I pulled a empty dump trailer 200 miles ( 5000lbs empty) and got 12.5 mpg. Filled it with 8,000 of flagstone rock ( so now it weighs 13,000 lbs) and drove home. Got 12.0 mpg. So 1/2 mpg difference for 8,000 lbs.
I pulled a 16,000lb LQ horse trailer loaded with horse for 500 mile tripand average 12 mpg, Pulled an almost identical trailer, but empty, no horses, No LQ and it weighed 6,000lbs and got 12.5 mpg. So 10,000lbs lighters saved me 1/2 mpg.
I think wind resistence and rolling resistence for the running gear make a bigger impact on the fuel mileage than the weight you carry/tow.
Starting/stopping are very hard on mileage. My in town mileage often drops to 10 or 10.5 mpg vs 12-13 if I can get on a highway and stay at constant speed.

18 or 20" vs. 17" along with gear ratio? 2wd and 4wd all matter too.
I like it that some other people driving these 6.7L are getting good mileage. My 2012 CC 4x4 dually says it gets 14.5-15 mpg on the display, but when I hand calc it it is 12.5-13 mpg always. I dont drive with a heavy foot. I drove 300 miles today 95% highway, driving 65mph, and the display showed 13.8 mpg. I havent had a chance to hand calc it yet, but to be truthfull I really don't want to because I will be disapointed.
I have 2600 miles on mine and I drive 26 miles to work one way.The best I can get at 65mph(speed limit) is 14 and some change.I have not seen over 14 since I took off the Michelin street tires and put the 295 x 18 Nitto's on the truck.
Live with it or let them re-program the pcm??
It will get better. My rig did a lot of regens when I first got it. Not sure why, but they're getting fewer and farther between now.
This was/is my regen experience as well.
My mileage has ALWAYS been lower than what others claim they are getting from day one, but I also have a CC DRW 4x4 so this may be a lot of the difference or some of the lie-o-meters need adjusting. Also, my average towing mileage pulling an 18,000+ GN is 10.1-2 no matter whether it's up and down I-95 or cross country (VA to CA).
