After searching for months for the elusive diesel 4x4 cargo I want, Iv just about given up. I guess I need to shop for the diesel and install the 4x4 myself.
But I did find a 1997 diesel 4x4 window van a few hours away. If I wanted to replace the window body with a cargo.. Which years would fit? I see the 138" wheel base is used from 1983 until present.
I am pretty sure the '97 had a minor face lift that lasted till around 2000 or 2002 not sure. The Chassis is basically the same since about '68 but with body face lifts and engine changes not to mention electronics.
Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, it may be easier to just replace the glass with panels. I have seen this done with at least the rear windows where they existed in cargo vans but don't see why you could not just replace them all.

Thanks.
Your talking about welding a panel over the opening after the window is removed? That's like getting the back windows tinted to much in some police officers minds..
No, basically what I have seen is a metal panel, possibly aluminum, cut in the shape of the window and then installed just like the window. I first saw this after one of my sub-contractors van's was broke into. He replaced the rear window that was busted with a panel. Then a little later did the other side. Turned out nice.
Not sure what to do about the police. The rear windows are not required so not sure how they can legally do anything.

The police sure can.. I had a cargo van years ago and one of the rear door windows broke. I covered it with plastic while I searched for new glass but was pulled over and told since it originally had a window, it need another one even after I pointed out some vans dont have rear windows. Let me go with a warning. So its completely up to the officer.
Replacing the windows with sheet metal is cheesy and wont fly.. And also draws attention.
Jeez.. Lets say..
I want to air brush a 70's knight in shinning armor mural, or a A team stripe on the side of my van and I dont want windows in the way.
Basically, the replies Iv got here say "I dont know what range year ford bodies would fit the 97 I'm considering".
It was an honest question. Although it's off topic I'll rephrase - what is the benefit of multiple steering dampers vs one beefy steering damper?

Sorry.. It's not my van. I was considering it but it had windows.
It was a home brew 4x4 install and two dampers represents a problem to me. Among a few other issues..
