LED bed lighting

I just had the Century dealer install a new cap on my truck. They wired the LED dome light to a key-on only circuit. 99% of the time I am using the bed of my truck the truck is not running. I want the LED wired to an always hot circuit. I think the interior dome lights of my truck are wired with a safety mechanism so that if they are mistakenly left on they will eventually shut off before draining the batteries (I need to verify this). If that's the case I would like to tie into this circuit so I can benefit from that same safety mechanism in the bed. Anybody have a similar setup or any ideas? My truck is a 2012 F350 6.7L Larriat FX4 with crew cab and 8ft box.

Do you have a method to turn the dome lights on inside the truck? If you tied into the domelight circuit, they would have to be on anytime you wanted the cap light on too correct?
