hey guys, what have you found your bad CPS doing to you besides stalling? inconsitently the truck will cut out for litterlally a split second and wont do it for another week. and when i come to a red light or what ever sometimes it will surges up and down kinda fast but not a romp. ill turn the key back and forward quick to reset it and ususally its fine. pretty much all my sensors are new at this point besudes my old black CPS
Mine is doing the exact same thing. The hesitation has been going on for a while, but the little RPM flutter has only started in the last week or two. I was guessing that it was the CPS too, but was kinda waiting for it to get worse so it would be easier to tell if that was actually the issue when I replaced it. I hate swapping parts without knowing for sure that it fixed an intermittent issue.
exactly what my truck does!!!! its very inconsistent, and it all seemed to start to happen when i started adding the schaeffers moly ep additive to my new oil change and thought my oil was freaking out guess its time to change the cps, assuming this is deffinetly what the issue is.
The only time mine has ever cut out is coming off idle at a stop. Taking off from a stop sign or stop light it just hiccups once. It only does it about once every two weeks or so too. Really sporadic. Kinda funny that it sounds like you're having the same issue.
I kinda half way thought about taking the throttle pedal assembly out and cleaning up the TPS really well. Both the symptoms I am having I though could be attributed to a dirty TPS. I might still try that first and see if that helps. It's just about impossible to tell though because it only screws up once in a blue moon. This fluttering in the RPM though seems to happen a little more frequently though, so I guess that might make it easier to test. It almost feels like an injector cuts out and then starts firing again when it flutters. I thought I could feel it doing something the last week or so, but I think on the way to work this morning cruising through town at about 25 I could actually hear the RPM variation at part throttle.
I swapped out my whole pedal assembly with one I had on the shelf this evening. I guess we will see if that does it or not. I will let you know what happens.
i had my truck shut off on me going down the highway then fire right back up while still rolling replaced the cps good now
Mine has never been that dramatic. It is just a real quick hiccup when leaving from a stop and it only does it once a month or so. We will see if this TPS fixes it. If it doesn't then the CPS is next.
I got a 97 pedal assembly because my pedal would up and stop working sometimes, 80 miles out on the highway I said enough with this! I don't recall it doing that when I first put it in. I can try cleaning that too, but at idol sometimes it will flutter up and down even if I hold it at 1k you can hear the variation in the ICP. So maybe it is the CPS?
Yeah mine does that flutter a little too from time to time. The other thing mine does is that it idles smooth as glass when it is cold, but after it gets up to temperature, the idle isn't as smooth. It doesn't lope but it is a little rough. I would have though that it was IPR o-rings except that I replaced them about a year ago. This I have just come to accept. It's not a new 6.7 so I just tolerate it. I probably pay WAY more attention to the sounds and vibrations that this thing makes than most people do.
The thing looks really rough, but functionally I like to keep it in tip top shape. It's kinda annoying how personal I take it when the truck isn't working right. You kinda feel "wounded" when something doesn't work. I take a lot of pride in keeping it running right.
Mine did something like that when the CPS went. Cruising down the highway and the engine shut down for a split second and came back like nothing happened. It also hunted for idle. It would idle up and down for awhile and then RPM would drop and it would idle normal for awhile. Then it would do it all over again. LOL.
The grey CPS I tried didn't idle as smooth as the black CPS. The dark grey one I have now idles a little better than the grey one, but it's still not like the original. If I could find a stash of black CPSs, I would be putting that back in my truck.

My truck does this while it's warming up. It doesn't do it when it's cold and you first start it, but after it's been running and it's up to 100* or so, it'll start doing that. Once it's above 180* it doesn't do it anymore.
It the older (black) CPS the one listed with the part number F7TZ-12K073-A? It is just listed in the p/n thread as "97+". And what about the one listed as the "B" sensor (F7TZ-12K073-B)? I thought that was the light grey one correct? Then there is an F4 number that is listed as a '94-96 sensor. Which one do I want for a '95 or 96 engine?
Dark gray is F4TZ-12K073C ford, 1876736C91 IH. That is all I have down, I think there are other numbers in the parts list thread, don't know how recent they are.
