Hey SDRONO I just noticed you live in Rose Hill. As you can see we're close to each other. If you want to talk more personally just send me a personal post. I'd be glad to help you any way I can. My rig is different than most, as it is one of the puny chassis cabs. 100 less HP, but it pulls the 5th wheel so much more effortlessly than the 6.0. Anyhow, let me know if I can be of assistance.

Thanks Jim. I'm trying to deal with Mel Hambilton They have found a White Platinum F350 DRW FX4 CC Lariat with Lariat Ultimate, Camper Pkg, Heavy Duty Alt, 5th Wheel Prep and several other options. They had the Tuxedo Black but I don't think it looks as good and the white.

Senix, You know something coming down the pike that I should wait for? Other than the pending fisical cliff.

SDRONO, I buy using X plan so doesn't matter where I go, same price. It sounds like you are putting a really nice rig together. We got the console this time instead of 40/20/40 and we really like it better. We have marveled at the power of this truck, and boy is it quiet. The mileage increase was an unexpected bonus. Truthfully, I didn't care about the mileage. We were sick and tired of fighting the crosswinds across I40 every year with a SRW. Boy, what a difference the dually makes. Good luck with your decision, keep us posted. A bunch of great people here!!

I just had to replace the damn A/C compressor this last month and I was only 9 months out of warrenty. Ford would't cover and I had had A/C problems before. On this last trip to AZ when I got such crappy mileage I noticed that my rear fender and 5th wheel had quite a bit of diesel soot on them and my tailpipes have really never been as clean as some other 08/09's I have seen. I took it in when it was still a month left on warrenty and they couldn't find anything wrong. So I did go drive an 2012 today and I have to say it is a very impressive truck. The one I drove had 3:73's. The salesman had me reset the LOM and I kinda flogged it and by the time I got back to the dealer (about a 15 mile trip) it read 15.9 MPG. I know you can't rely on the LOM but if I would have been in my truck I would have been lucky to get 12 driving the way I was driving. I was also impressed with the way the truck rode. Seemed a lot smoother than mine. Even the wife thought it was easier on the girls as she says. Soo, I'm thinking since I'm getting close to retirement and will be traveling more, the 3-4 mpg extra when fuel gets above $4 again will help pay a little. Plus the heated/cooled seats sure were nice. So If I can get a descent trade I'm thinking I will pull the trigger. Cause by the time I put a tuner exhaust and all the goodies to get better mpgs on this truck that would be around 4K and I still would be close to getting 3-4 mpgs better. I have even thought about the cost of the DPF fluid. Again all thanks for your input.

Welcome to FTE.
Sorry to hear about your bum treatment. Sux when the warranty runs out.
You must have driven a dually if it had the 3:73 gears.

Yes it was a DRW with the same options as I described in previous post but was tuxedo black and black interior. I had a black truck before and I live on a dirt road out in the county. Couldn't keep the darn thing looking nice so I went to white.

By far this is the best towing mileage I have ever had in a truck and with only 6k+ miles on it plus with the DRW setup.

I also tow a 27' Sea Ray Boat that weighs just under 9k loaded with the trailer and get 16 highway at 70mph. It is far more aerodynamic than the hauler which is a contributing factor I believe, but still decent weight.
The 6.7 is great with 3.73's. With as low as first and second gear appear to be I couldn't imagine 4.11's or 4.30's. They might cause whiplash on takeoff.

I think regardless of which 2011+ truck you get, your milage will be better.

I upgraded from a pre-ordered '08 F-250 with 3.73s towing a regular TT trailer to a '11 F-450 with 4.30's pulling a 16k lb 40ft fiver. Even with the gearing and weight differences I see no less than 2MPG _better_ milage with the '11 than I ever saw with my '08.

I had about every regular 6.4l problem the '08's bad but I still loved that truck. (overactive regen, massive clouds of smoke at regen start, failed radiators, leaky bedplate, starts a regen as soon as you hook a trailer up and won't stop until you shut down, etc).. with all the issues I still loved the truck, but it can't even begin to compare to the '11.

If the '08 does what you need it to do and you still love the truck then save the money and keep it around(under warranty of course). Otherwise you won't regret a new truck.
